Just when you think it’s all traffic…

So we’re driving along the Florida coast on US 98. Traffic, gift shops, chain stores, then more traffic, gift shops, chain stores.

I’ve decided Florida is not for me.
When all of a sudden…I see cars stopped along the side of the road. hmmm… wonder what’s going on?  We’re in the car so it’s easy to make a quick exit and join the small make shift parking lot of about 10 cars.

So we get out and start walking through the dunes.

And this is what we find..

Oh my God! Words cannot describe….white sand, cool breeze, only a couple people fishing and flying kites. (And this was on a Sunday afternoon, yet no people!)

We had found the Gulf Islands National Seashore, quite by accident. We went back the next day when we had more time to spend.

This is a bit of heaven in a world of chaos that is Florida. I still wouldn’t move here, but it does give one pause….maybe…
